Poetry Spotlight | “Grown” by Theresa MacDonald
Grown
Life from yesterday
flashed before me.
Two grown men—
yesterday, a couple of boys.
Teasing each other, testing,
laughing as the old game returns,
from before, when days were spent
barefoot, jumping wildly on the trampoline,
the lazy sunshine lingering until
all at once—dinner time, and drifting reverie.
At sunset’s farewell, they say goodbye
for today, stepping back into grownup lives,
bearing witness—those who still hold your
heartstrings, tethered to a time long ago.
