Publisher’s Hot Tip | Fact-Check Using ChatGPT in Seconds
In a world where misinformation spreads quickly, especially on social media, fact-checking is more important than ever.
According to the Pew Research Center, one in five Americans receive their daily news from social media platforms. In the same survey, 64% of adults said that “fake news” caused confusion about basic facts, and 23% admitted to sharing misinformation—sometimes unknowingly.
So, what can you do when you come across something questionable while scrolling?
The answer is simple: fact-check before believing or sharing. Luckily, with AI tools like ChatGPT, fact-checking is fast and easy. Here’s how you can do it in just three steps:
- Identify the Claim: If you see an image, headline, or post that doesn’t quite sit right with you, pause before reacting. Recognize the need for verification before spreading any information.
- Copy & Paste into ChatGPT: Screenshot or copy the text or details of the claim and paste it directly into ChatGPT. Ask ChatGPT to verify the information, and within seconds, you’ll get a breakdown of whether it’s true or false—or if further research is needed.
- Double-Check the AI’s Answer: Even though AI tools are great, they aren’t flawless. You may want to fact-check the fact-check! But it’s a great place to start, especially when you’re trying to avoid spreading misinformation.
In the video accompanying this post, I demonstrate how I used ChatGPT to fact-check a post about an ancient tomb, showing just how quick and easy it can be to verify information.
Final Thought: Before you hit “share,” take a moment to ensure what you’re posting is accurate. With AI at your fingertips, fact-checking has never been easier—and your audience (or friends or family or followers) will thank you for it.

I can’t remember exactly when I joined Goodreads, but my profile photo dates back to 2016—and I’m pretty sure I signed up before Amazon bought it in […]
