Poetry Spotlight | “Blaze” by BrainTurbulent6998
BrainTurbulent6998 posted three five poems inspired by Emily Dickenson on Reddit over the weekend. This is one of them.
BLAZE
You watch me full of Flames—
Your Knife— still in my chest
Why would you make these claims?
Was it all just a Stupid Test!!I Hate You!— I— hate— you—?
But do I really hate you?
Your cruel Painted halls
That only Glow—With the destructive— thorns
Of your words—
I sit here useless—
as a Broken— swordYou did nothing
As I roamed your
Halls— broken wing—
And ripped feathersI sit here—
full of Flame
I only wish
His Hand— had
Taken— me away—I walk your halls
Asking why, why—
Do I abide by
Your cruel—Rule?— my Light—
Slowly falling—
What can I do right?
I guess I’ll— buryMyself— in
Sinking through— Your
Marshy bin—
I have no Power—Among the shifting
Tides— blue and
Blood ridden—
Fuel— the Fire.
Tune in next week and the week after to read BrainTurbulent6998’s other pieces. We love them and are excited to highlight a fresh voice on our blog.
P.S. More than 1,700 poems are attributed to Dickinson (1830–1886), and Harvard’s really cool Emily Dickinson Archive lets readers explore images of the handwritten works in depth.
