Spring Updates from Unencumbered Press
Where the Fuck Did Winter Go?
I blinked and it was April. If you’ve been wondering where Unencumbered Press disappeared to—fair. Life swept in fast and full, and I let myself be present for it.
This winter I prioritized showing up—welcoming a new nibling into the world, celebrating milestone birthdays with friends, and just trying to be where I was needed most. In between all that, I’ve been chipping away at work for the press—scribbling notes, half-drafting blog posts, mapping out what’s next. Quietly, steadily, it’s all been building.
Now that the days are stretching longer, I’m ready to share more.
What’s Coming to the Blog?
Publisher’s Picks
A roundup of what I’ve been reading, loving, and turning over in my mind lately. (Spoiler: it’s a good mix.) If you haven’t already, take a look at previous Picks posts to catch up.
Living Unencumbered
This series is part travelogue, part messy meditation—because sometimes living unencumbered means not having it all figured out, just choosing to keep moving. In my next Living Unencumbered post, I reflect on living out of hotels, the intimacy of long-distance road trips, and what it means to carry both fear and joy across state lines. While you wait, you can revisit my previous post in this series.
Behind the Business
This new blog series opens up the Unencumbered Press business plan—one piece at a time. I’ll be sharing what’s guiding the work, the questions I’m wrestling with, and what I’m hoping to build, not just for the press but with the community around it. Expect space for feedback, questions, and maybe even a little co-dreaming.
What Else Is on the Horizon?
The Altered Tarot Deck is so close. If you’ve been waiting—thank you. This project has been in the works for a long time—rooted in nature, shadow, light, and language—and I can’t wait to finally share the finished deck with you. We’re putting the final touches on everything.
Tyler Bieber’s biography of Father Tom Oddo, Against the Current, is coming soon as well. This important book offers a powerful portrait of a man who challenged systems and shaped lives with courage and compassion. The front cover reveal is just around the corner, and it’s absolutely stunning. I can’t wait for you to see it.
And there’s more on the horizon: new book announcements, guest posts, interviews, and a growing selection of standalone literature and poems are all in motion. I’m especially excited to feature more voices across genres and forms—work that surprises, resonates, and invites reflection. Stay tuned; there’s so much more to come.
If you’ve been missing us—hi. I’ve missed you too. I’m glad you’re here. There’s so much coming, and I can’t wait to share it with you.
And while you’re here:
What have you been carrying across your own state lines—grief, joy, or something else entirely?
What would you love to see more of from Unencumbered Press this spring?
Drop a comment, send an email, or just sit with the question. I’m listening.
